Report from October 25th

I made my way towards Selsey and it’s famous Bill under heavy grey skies portending rain. It finally descended as I reached the local lifeboat station where I sheltered with a local who had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the location of where I could find public conveniences.
Once the weather cleared I set off with my new found knowledge.
As I passed through Selsey a lady stopped me and donated a pound to MIND as that was all she could afford. I was very touched by this and I set off down the shingle beach to East Wittering.
I am getting better walking on shingle and as tide fell I could get on an easier and less noisy section.
After a coffee and Ice cream at the Goat cafe it was back on track to West Wittering where I was staying.
I spotted several horse riders on the beach with the horses enjoying themselves plunging through the waves.
When I arrived in West Wittering to my room in a “gastro pub” , I discovered it was shut. I could still get to my room via a key lock box but no drinks in the pub and certainly no food.
West Wittering has no other pubs or fast food vendors. After two nights under canvas I wasn’t impressed.
However when I was in my room I heard the sound of drilling from downstairs. There I met the land lord of the pub who outsourced the letting of the rooms.
He organised a curry for that evening for me, which was very much appreciated!
The pub apparently was never open on a Tuesday which the letting agency should have known!!
The room was good and the bed was very welcome.
